BAH--Mortgage Mess

(click new post at top of blog to respond)

The “Covenant of Mortgage” is already broken where I come from--the birthplace of the Foreclosure Crisis. We moved to Massachusetts from Ohio in January. In my cozy Ohio neighborhood three houses sit empty because owners walked away. Now my old house is underwater not worth what we paid for it four years ago. I admit there are times we want to walk away but we don’t think it is the right thing to do. So we pay rent here and mortgage there hoping that a first-time homebuyer or responsible renter will surface..

Now Banks and Speculators simply walk away from their obligations with impunity. Our mortgage company probably won’t budge on the principal. We qualify for interest rate relief but suspect they fail to tell you there is are significant hidden costs on the back end.

This is another case of Who you are--Big Banker-- trumping What you do--Paying Homeowner. Now Mr, Civic Journalist … unleash your Truth Squads to find solutions for your readers.. ..

BAH Breakup at the Mall

(click new post at top of blog to respond)

Mall Walker: There should be special laws for 50 and 60 year olds when it comes to breakups according to a guy walking with a couple. In MA the ex gets 20% of his assets. In Fla., says he, she would get only what she came into the marriage with. Reminded me of the country song that noted African-American journalist Liz Walker spoke of recently talking about Love.

"My wife ran off with my best friend. Boy I sure miss him."

BAH. Haiti Help

Haiti is on my mind. Lying in my comfortable bed hearing the wail of
wall-to-wall coverage on the flatscreen in the other room ... How can
I not think of Haiti.

I must help Haiti somehow. But how.
I cruised there once. I chatted with folks on a beach who may well be
casualties of a cruel quake. I must send something but to whom?

Haiti is certainly on my mind. Should I send money to a faceless
website? Will my pittance get to people who need it or be laundered
out of existence by the people who don't.
